While on her high school yearbook staff Erin discovered in one shot that pictures tell the most amazing stories – at a pivotal moment she focused her camera on the runner-up instead of the winner. One click and a photojournalist was born.
Erin spent the next four years learning the craft and business as she earned a degree in photojournalism at the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication in Chapel Hill. It was her assignments with the Chapel Hill News that gave her the experience to mature from a student to a young professional working as a newspaper photographer and launching Erin Whittle Photography.
The evidence was there: Erin had a knack for capturing people in natural moments, and she has made a career doing just that for almost 20 years.
Experience as a photojournalist equipped Erin with the calm and focus to see and capture tender, funny and poignant moments in dynamic, high-pressure environments. Erin's photography is driven by real interactions and moments she observes…she finds emotion, light and color and translates them into a lovely and lasting record of important life events. Her warmth, calm and spark of humor help put you and your family and friends at ease – and those qualities are evident in her photographs.
